22 Days Until - Countdown to Jubilee

FOR TODAY Focusing on the word "just" may strike many as an odd theme in our journey to revival. This week and subsequent ones will move us more directly towards the theme of our revival: Just Mercy, Just Jesus. In Webster’s Dictionary there are two main definitions of the word "just." Let’s look at both and how they might inform our preparations. The first definition designates its use as a noun: A "just" entity is one that is reasonable, proper, righteous, deserved, or lawful. The second definition focuses on the use of "just" as an adverb: exactly, barely, directly, simply, possibly or almost. We have heard the prophets of old and of our current time speak of a longing for a "just" society. In that sense, we long for what is right and good and lawful. At other times, we use the word "just" to reduce something to the basics, to what is essential, or to be dismissive. As we move through this week, a key aspect of being prepared and moved by a revival is getting in touch of the essentials in our relationship with God and with others. Being moved and changed by a revival means that we are constantly removing non-essentials from our lives while staying attuned to what is most important in being a follower of Jesus in the Way of Love.

FOR FURTHER REFLECTION Having moved through the devotions thus far, how have your "justs," that are your essentials, changed or been challenged in your relationship with God and your community? What specific examples might you share with someone else?
