My apologies if the Les Miserables reference is lost on you, but there is only one more day left of General Convention. Those of you who watched my homage to the "Star Wars" prayer of Eucharistic Prayer C will know that my interview with John George was compromised. But have no fear dear friends, we have re-done it and you will hear from him in the link below.
More importantly, we have come to the point in General Convention where the work has to happen fast and furious. while I was at the installation of the new National Altar Guild Association president, Dianne Walters from Nativity in Dothan, the House of Deputies and the House of Bishops passed the proposed budget of which I spoke yesterday.
It was a joyous day for me as I had the opportunity to spend the day with a parishioner who is taking a leadership role in the church throughout the communion. Dianne is a dear friend and a blessed volunteer with our Altar Guild, but she is also a part of the world wide leadership of that organization. It was indeed a joy. More importantly, it was a joy because I had the opportunity to serve with a beloved friend and seminary classmate, the Rev. Stanford Adams. Stanford is the senior associate at Good Shepherd in Austin. His son, Will, and my son, JP, are the same age, and we were blessed to have an chance to catch up during the service and afterwards as we shared dinner.
This is one of the greatest joys of General Convention, being with the church from around the world, from communities large and small, from places near and far. For more insight on this, I commend to you the interviews with John George and Jo Popham found below. Blessing and peace be with you,
Peter+
