The Holy Spirit Thrift Shop recently donated $2,500 to the South Baldwin Literacy Council.

According to Cathy Rogers, Director of the South Baldwin Literacy Council, the grant money will be used to provide instructional materials and tutoring supplies for adult and youth literacy programs. SBLC services include: Learn to Earn which assists adults with resumes, job searches and interviews; the popular Book and Bear program which provides pediatric patients at South Baldwin Regional Center a free book and toy bear along with information for parents on the importance of reading; and tutoring for over 200 at-risk children in six local elementary schools.

The Holy Spirit Thrift Shop is an outreach ministry of Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Gulf Shores. Located at 6786 Highway 59, the Thrift Shop is open from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Tuesday through Friday and 10:00 am - 1:00 pm on Saturdays. Proceeds from the sale of donated clothes, furniture, books and small household items benefit non-profit charitable organizations in Baldwin Count.
