About The Event

On June 16, 1949, The Right Reverend C.J. Carpenter, Bishop of the Diocese of Alabama, officiated at Evening Prayer at the newly completed St. Mary’s Episcopal Church building located on Second Avenue. It was the first worship service held in the new building and was the realization of a dream for the small group of Episcopalians in Andalusia.

On the weekend of June 15th and 16th, members and friends of St. Mary’s Church will celebrate the 70th anniversary of this first building and break ground for a new addition to the current facility. The addition will include an office suite, a conference room, several classrooms, and additional parking.

On Saturday, June 15th, there will be a reception and groundbreaking for the new addition at 6:00 pm. The Right Reverend Russell Kendrick, Bishop of the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast, will speak.

On Sunday, June 16th, worship will begin at 9:15 am, followed by lunch. The Reverend Bob Randall, former Rector of St. Mary’s and currently Rector of Old Donation Church, Virginia Beach, Virginia, will preach.
