About The Event
Commissioned by NBC in 1951, “Amahl and the Night Visitors” is the first opera ever written for television. Its composer, Gian Carlo Menotti, drew inspiration from Hieronymus Bosch’s “The Adoration of the Magi,” which is displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This opera tells the story of Amahl, a shepherd boy. When three kings come knocking on his and his mother’s door, Amahl is enchanted. When the kings describe the child they are seeking, Amahl and his mother are intrigued and moved. Their faith results in a miracle.
This semi-staged production is in collaboration with Classical Ballet of Mobile, features soprano Mollie Adams as The Mother, and is stage directed by Dr. Patrick Jacobs. Donations are requested for this concert. This production will not be live streamed due to copyright laws.
