St. Christopher’s Concert Series
The popular jazz pianist Al Martin and group will be the featured performers at the Wednesday May 16 Christopher’s Concerts. Martin is a Pensacola native who trained at the Berklee School of Music in Boston and, except for a year in Atlanta as A&R (artists & repertoire) representative for a recording company, has made his career in Pensacola. He has a busy career in performing and teaching, On Wednesdays and Thursdays, he can be heard at Gregory Street Assembly Hall, Fridays at Unique Café in Gulf Breeze and Saturdays at Ragtyme in downtown Pensacola. There’s no respite for him on Sundays in that he is pianist and assistant organist at Greater Union Baptist Church. Performing with Martin for Christopher’s Concerts will be Jeffrey Rodgers, drums and Tom Latenser, string bass.
Martin has performed for all five previous concerts in this series. One audience-pleasing favorite is when he will call for requests and select two tunes and improvise a medley on the spot. Al is at home, also, in the theatre. A few years ago he played the role of Thomas “Fats” Waller in the UWF production of “Ain’t Misbehavin’.” The audience can expect entertaining light jazz and popular music for listening and dancing. There are guaranteed to be pleasant musical surprises from this talented trio.
The Rev. Eric Long, rector at St. Christopher’s, said, “We have had good response from the audiences and compliments in moving our events to the more temperate months of April and May. This is our sixth season of presenting these programs but the first season of moving to the spring. Hence, we changed our name from Summer Serenade to Christopher’s Concerts. Since these Wednesdays are on school nights, the free, two-hour events will begin at 6:00 p.m. Patrons are invited to bring lawn chairs and snacks, if desired. There will be a concession stand for sale of sandwiches, hot-dogs, soft drinks and ice cream. Concerts are held on the church lawn and there is adequate parking on both sides of the property. We are pleased to welcome the community to come and enjoy these delightful concerts with us.”
In event of unfavorable weather, on the day of the event, announcement will be made on WEAR-TV3 4:00 o’clock news whether the concert will be presented. Or one may call St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 850-433-0074 between four and five p.m. for confirmation.
Remaining schedule is as follows:
May 23— Sawmill Band (classic country)
May 30– Swingin’ Dick Tracys (swing and soft rock)

2013 Dominican Republic Construction Trip Dates Announced
On behalf of the Diocesan Commission on World Mission I am pleased to announce that the dates for the 2013 Diocesan Construction Mission to the Dominican Republic will be Saturday March 2, 2013 through Sunday March 10, 2013.
Applications will not be accepted until after Labor Day, however, each year some people have told me that they would have liked to go on mission trips in the past but did not have enough advance notice of the dates to arrange their schedules. So, this year I am happy to give ten and a half months advance notice. If you would like to go or think that you may want to go please mark your calendar today. If you know of someone who may want to go please pass this information along to them also.
A notice restating the dates of the mission trip and giving the dates applications will be accepted will be sent out the first week after Labor Day.
At this time Bishop Holguin has not decided where he wants us to work. As soon as I have information regarding the exact location and project I’ll let you all know.

Geary Gaston, Construction Team Leader

Bishop Duncan Addresses The Episcopal Community
The following was written by Bishop Duncan and published by The Episcopal Community.
Easter Greetings to The Episcopal Community
Lent concludes with our observance of The Great Three Days, The Triduum. The summation of what we believe is declared with gathering momentum and excitement and within the gathered communities as we proclaim, “Alleluia. Christ is Risen. The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia.” For us The Easter Season is about that proclamation and how it effects and continually changes our lives. It makes a great difference that we are loved by God in and through Christ Jesus our Lord who has given us fullness of life. It calls me to look deep within and see what leads me into a closer relationship with God and with others. It forces me to say no to making “the others” disposable and discountable. All are within the reach of that embrace by God even those I find difficult and problematic to love not to mention to like. Not only are we a Resurrection people, but we are, also, an Incarnational people. Not only is God en-fleshed at the birth of Jesus, we proclaim that this Easter triumph over death is in that same flesh.
It make a difference. Body is a way to say what this resurrection is not. Body is not some spirit that hovers about. Body is of the stuff of life and life through the love of Jesus our Lord and in the love of God. It is all about the egg hunts and the flowering of the crosses and the candles and the music and the readings and the preaching and the Holy Communion and the gathered communities of faith and the meals with friends and family. It is because this resurrection is beyond our capacity of language and experience that we seek ways to express it within our experiences of loce and caring and joy with one another. May this Easter Season bring us all before God’s throne for we are Marked As Christ’s Own For Ever!
Alleluia He is Risen!
