IMPORTANT LOGISTICAL DETAILS

FRIDAY EVENING EVENT - During Diocesan Convention, Mardi Gras festivities will be celebrated in the city of Mobile. As part of our convention celebration, Christ Church Cathedral will be hosting a special Mardi Gras party on Friday evening during the Conde Cavaliers Parade whose route passes directly by the Cathedral campus. This will be a jubilant time! However, special attention should be paid to your travel schedule and that of the city's parades.

TRAVEL & PARADES - Please be advised that various streets around the Cathedral will be closed to all vehicular traffic two hours prior to parade start times - Friday parade start time 6:30 p.m., Saturday parade start time 2:30 p.m. 

PARKING - Parking will take advanced planning. 

Read Carefully Before Purchasing Friday Parking Pass
Option 1:
If you are staying at hotels downtown (Holiday Inn, Riverview Plaza, etc.), you will be charged for parking by the hotels. No need to drive to the Cathedral; hotels are closeby and within walking distance. No need to purchase this pass. 

Option 2:
The city parking lot across from the Cathedral on Church Street is open for parking on Friday for an onsite fee. First come-first served. No pre-sale available for this option.

 

Option 3: 
The Cathedral arranged with the city to offer 42 parking spots for $10 per car for the entire day and evening on Friday (Fort Conde parking lot 1/2 block from the Cathedral - see map below). Purchase parking pass HERE

Note that Church Street will close around 4:30 p.m. Friday for the parade; if you haven't moved you car by then, you should plan on enjoying the parade as the street reopens around 7:30 p.m.

There is no charge for parking in any city lot or on Church Street on Saturday. 


No cars may be left in any city lot overnight or you will be towed. 

PRE-CONVENTION MEETING

The one and only pre-convention meeting was held January 12, 2020, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church. Below is the link to the recording of the meeting.

CERTIFICATION OF LAY DELEGATES

Deadline for the election of delegates is Monday, December 9, 2019. 

 

Download the form and save to your computer.

Submission options:

  • fill the form out electronically, save to computer, then email the saved file to jenn@diocgc.org OR

  • print and complete the form, scan document and email to jenn@diocgc.org OR

  • print and complete the form and mail to Diocese of the CGC, PO Box 13330, Pensacola, FL 32591-3330.

Lay delegates should be ELECTED AND CERTIFIED ON OR BEFORE December 9, 2019.

 

In accordance with Canon 3, Sections 4 and 5, of this diocese:

  1. The number of lay delegates per congregation is based on parish or mission status and upon the number of communicants in good standing, as listed on the 2018 Parochial Report, page 2, line 3. For your convenience, the list on the reverse shows the number of lay delegates each congregation may elect.

  2. Lay delegates are elected for one year, or until their successors are elected, and shall also be the delegates for any special and called meetings of the Convention during their term of service. Each congregation shall also be entitled to elect one (1) alternate delegate for each delegate.

  3. Lay delegates should be elected and certified no later than sixty days prior to the date of the Convention.

GENERAL RESOLUTIONS

Our Rules of Order require that all resolutions be presented in writing 45 days prior to the Convention.

Regular registration is now closed. Late registration is open through Tuesday, February 4 (additional fees apply).  

 

RESOLUTIONS TO AMEND CANONS

Canon 28 requires all proposals altering or amending canons should be presented in writing 90 days prior to the opening of the Convention, to be distributed to congregations 60 days prior to the opening of Convention. 

CHILDCARE

Childcare will not be provided during Convention activities. 

CLERGY SPOUSE/PARTNER LUNCHEON

Hosted by Robin Kendrick, the Clergy Spouse Luncheon will be held on Saturday, February 8, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Christ Church Cathedral - Huger House. Please RSVP to the Diocesan Office at (850) 434-7337 by Friday, January 31, 2020.

EXHIBITORS/VENDORS

Exhibits showcasing various commissions, agencies, institution, ministries and organizations will be open through the Convention.  Please stop by for a visit to see the displays and to learn more about what is happening in our diocese.  

 

Exhibitor space is reserved for diocesan commissions/committees/agencies. All exhibitors/vendors for Diocesan Convention shall be approved by the diocesan office. Completed this EXHIBIT SPACE RESERVATION FORM.

Exhibitors must also register and pay at the convention registration link above. Fee is $45 per person, includes name badge, convention booklet, lunch, Mardi Gras Party wristband.

HOTEL INFORMATION

Convention attendees are responsible for making their own arrangements for accommodations. Christ Church Cathedral has reserved blocks of rooms at various hotels in Mobile and the surrounding area. Download the flyer for locations, group codes, and rates. 

YOUTH LOCK-IN

The Youth Lock-in will be hosted at St. Luke's, Mobile from Friday, February 7 at 6 p.m. to Saturday, February 8 at 9 a.m. All youth in grades 6 through 12 are invited. This is a wonderful opportunity for the youth of the diocese to gather together, get to know one another, and have a blast playing lock-in games, eating tons of pizza, and watching movies! Cost is $10. Contact Rachel Gilliam at rachel@beckwithal.com. 

Due to the complexities of the Friday night parade and logistics of getting youth from one event to the next, the Friday evening youth parade party will not take place at the Cathedral as previously advertised - but please encourage your youth to attend the lock-in at St. Luke's!
