Congratulations to The Rev. Canon Mark Dunnam, Canon to the Ordinary, who has been called to be Rector of St. James’ Episcopal Church in Florence, Italy!  Mark’s first Sunday as Rector of St. James is October 11, 2009.  Mark leaves in early October for Florence and his wife, Dottie, will be traversing the globe for a few months to complete obligations to her voice and piano students and to the Girls’ Choir at All Saints, of which she is Director before making a final landing later this Fall in Florence.

St. James is one of several churches in The Convocation of American Churches in Europe, a collection of churches, mission congregations, and specialized ministries spread geographically over five countries in continental Europe. See St. James’ website

The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity is located in the centre of Paris. Click here to get an interactive Google map of the Convocation.  Congregations within the Convocation vary in size from fewer than 100 members in the mission congregations to more than 1,000 at the Cathedral in Paris. In total there are more than 4,000 active parishioners throughout the Convocation.

The Rev. Canon Dunnam is a graduate of General Theological Seminary in New York City and was ordained to the priesthood in 1973. He has been in our Diocese since 1981.

On a personal note….

I have laughed..and laughed…AND laughed with both of these two since I first met them in 1984 when I moved to Mobile.  You’d have to look for a century to find a more entertaining couple.  And I will especially miss the epistolary phone conversations I had with Mark over all kinds of topics.

Mark and Dottie have been people who have always been in and around my life in Mobile, and it is startling to think they will NOT be here.  I will miss them both very, very much.
