The Episcopal Church joins other voices around the United States in urging citizens to complete the census form, asking all to Be counted, or lose out! The deadline is around the corner, so there is still time to participate. Census forms were issued via United States Post Office, and the last day to mail back the census forms is Friday, April 16.
According to The Episcopal Church Office of Government Relations, based in Washington DC, there are some vital aspects of the census to remember:
- The Census affects how each state is represented in the United States Congress – The Census determines how more than $400 billion per year is allocated for projects like new hospitals and schools.
- If a community is under counted it will be under served. Completing the census allows for an accurate community count.
- Community residents can use the census data for local initiatives such as environment, quality-of-life issues and advocacy issues.
