Summer Serenade Concert Series continue each Wednesday through July e 23
St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church continues its Summer Serenade Series by
featuring The Armstrong-Powers-Spivey Trio on Wednesday July 7. The event
begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be held on the church lawn at 3200 N. 12th avenue. Patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, food and drink if desired. There will be sandwiches, snacks, ice cream and soft drinks available for purchase. In the event of unfavorable weather, the event will move inside the parish hall.
This will be the second appearance for this trio with Jim Armstrong on guitar, Angie Powers singing popular and jazz standard tunes and tenor saxophonist Sandy Spivey. Jim Armstrong is a performing jazz guitarist as well as a teacher. He has performed for the Jazz Society of Pensacola and Pensacola JazzFest on numerous occasions. He is well known in the Mobile area as well. Angie Powers has performed as well in the Central Gulf Coast area. Tenor saxophonist Sandy Spivey comes from a musical family. Longtime Pensacolians will remember late Ray Spivey and his Krazy Kats Band. Sandy grew up and performed with that band under his father’s leadership. Sandy was a solo performer for several years with a military band. Currently he heads a school for the arts and is music director for Cokesbury Methodist Church. He also teaches woodwinds at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville.
Norman Vickers, a member of the St. Christopher’s Summer Serenade Committee and Jazz Society activist, said, “This should be an outstanding evening. We have three star performers who have performed together on numerous occasions. I think our patrons will enjoy listening and dancing to these skilled musicians.”
The Summer Serenade is part of St. Christopher’s outreach program. There is adequate parking at the church. The event is free. For information call St. Christopher’s Church at 433-0074 or visit the website:www.scpen.org.
