Regional Coordinators for Disaster Preparedness appointed

Submitted by Eugene Johnston

Bishop Duncan has recently appointed David Brady as the Diocesan Coordinator for Disaster Preparedness, and has charged him with the responsibility of developing and implementing a plan to assist each parish or mission congregation to be prepared for the next disaster.

David is a member of All Saints in Mobile and a lawyer. He has spent the last 30 years in the United States Army Reserve and the Alabama National Guard and during that time he has been involved with the many natural disasters that occurred in the state. He recently retired at the rank of Colonel.

David has developed a plan to divide the Diocese into five Regions, with each Region having a Regional Disaster Coordinator. Each Regional Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating with their parishes and missions (collectively congregations) and acting as a liaison with the Diocese, in case of a disaster. Also, they will assist each congregation in developing their own disaster preparedness plan to meet their specific needs.

The Regions and the appointed Disaster Coordinators are:

Region 1: Mobile County; Will English (All Saints, Mobile)

Region 2: Baldwin County; John Howard Wilson, Jr. (St. Paul’s, Daphne)

Region 3: Escambia (FL) and Santa Rosa Counties; Michael Hardin (Christ Church, Pensacola).

Region 4: Okaloosa, Walton, Jackson, Washington, Bay, and Gulf Counties; Danny Ray (St. Jude’s, Niceville).

Region 5: Clarke, Monroe, Escambia (AL), Butler, Covington, Troy, Barbour, Coffee,

Dale, and Houston Counties; Mints McGowin (St. Thomas, Greenville)

The Regional Coordinator will be contacting congregations in the coming weeks to offer assistance with your Disaster Preparedness Plan. The Bishop has requested that each congregation will appoint its own Disaster Preparedness Coordinator/Committee. He recommends that the Coordinator or Committee Chair be someone other than the representative to Episcopal Relief and Development, as the responsibilities for these two positions are separate and distinct.

Feel free to contact the Diocesan Coordinator for Disaster Preparedness directly, with any questions/needs you may have:
