Holy Cross ECW re-chartered

Holy Cross ECW held its first official meeting in July. Attendees filled out a survey that indicated their objectives and interest in various activities. There were so many great ideas that it was difficult deciding what to do first!  However, the ECW quickly agreed on the Articles of Organization, officers, future spirituality and devotional items, and fund raisers for the Parish Hall Building Fund. Officers are President, Toni Brewer; Vice-President, Heather Duncan; Treasurer, Martha Jones; Secretary, Donna Zietlow; and Chaplain, Jan Van Winkle.

The first major event was a Fall Festival held on September 19. Meetings throughout the summer were primarily devoted to planning and implementing festival events. Duties were allocated to committee chairs as follows: Sally Roberts, Festival Lunch;  Amanda Maddox, Cook’s Corner (take home entrees and baked goods; Toni Brewer, Festival Craft Store; Rachel Iverson and Tracey Hotopp, Kidz Korner (games & kid friendly food);  Jan Van Winkle, Silent Auction; Jo Spencer, the Treasure Chest of gently used items; Howard Johnson, Book Browsing; Betty Enfinger, Publicity.

Two other fundraisers are being considered, a Silver Tea for the first Sunday of Advent and a cookbook. ECW will also assume the Sunday morning coffee ministry for both services. The September meeting attendees also considered social and spiritual needs. As such, the first social will be a Holy Cross ladies’ day away in November to the Murray House and Shamrock, Rose and Thistle Tea Room in Mobile. Chaplain Jan Van Winkle began the ECW spiritual sessions with “Seeking Him”, a series that utilize home study readings and discussion questions.

Our ECW is definitely on the move and energized to accomplish great things for Holy Cross.
