News from ECW’s Commission on Women’s Work

The purpose of the Commission on Women’s Work is to strengthen the spiritual lives of the women of the diocese and to provide useful direction in women’s activities, especially in the area of Christian education, outreach, and coordination of the efforts of women within the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast.

The commission is happy to announce the Fall Women’s Conference to be held at Camp Beckwith on September 30 – October 2, 2011. The guest speaker will be Beth Wilson from St. James, Fairhope, Alabama. The Spring Day Away will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Daphne, Alabama on April 21, 2012. The guest speaker will be Sister Schubert from Andalusia, Alabama. In addition to these two traditional events, the commission is offering a third event in July of 2011.

The commission acknowledges the interests and needs of the younger women of the church are different from their mothers and grandmothers’  needs. In an effort to address these different needs and issues of the younger women in the diocese we are rekindling the group, Women of Vision.  This training program was developed by the ECW in cooperation with the Women in Mission and Ministry office. The program is designed to empower women for ministry in all areas of their lives. If you know of a young women who is a natural leader in your church, this would be a great opportunity to encourage her to connect with other young women from all over the diocese.  This is the ECW Commission desire to help every young woman live into a full spiritual life.

Sponsored by the Episcopal Church Women (ECW), the Women of Vision retreat is scheduled for July 29th – 31st at Beckwith Camp and Conference Center. This is a unique opportunity to empower women for ministry in all areas of their lives. The conference leaders are Cecil Williamson of the Diocese of Alabama and Joy Tway from our diocese. The fee for single room is $250; double room is $202. Application forms are available online:
