The 39th Annual Diocesan Convention was a one-day event at Christ Church Parish in Pensacola, FL.  This was the first convention held where all business was conducted in one day. In an effort to provide a full open hearing on the Diocesan budget and other Diocesan finance issues, two meetings were held in February on the 6th and the 20th. The meetings gave an opportunity for delegates to participate in the budget/finance discussions prior to the Convention.

Approximately 300 clergy and lay delegates, alternates, and visitors gathered for a day of fellowship and Diocesan business.

Those gathered for the convention:

• heard two rousing sermons from The Rt. Rev. Michael Curry, Bishop of North Carolina, who was guest speaker and Convention chaplain;
• adopted a resolution urging the Alabama legislature to allow the people of Alabama to vote on calling a Citizen’s Constitution Convention to write Alabama’s 7th Constitution;
• adopted a resolution changing the name of the Diocese to “The Episcopal Church in the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast, Inc.”;
• adopted a resolution commending the work of the Standing Committee and Operation Redesign and encouraging congregations and Diocesan institutions to engage in a five year plan;
• adopted a $1,277,360 budget which is balanced after severe cuts in Diocesan programs and personnel;
• designated the Convention offerings to be given to Episcopal Relief and Development designated for earthquake aid to Haiti;
• accepted the invitation of Christ Church Cathedral, Mobile for the 41st Annual Convention to be held February 9 -11, 2012. The 2011 Convention had previously been set for St.James’, Fairhope and Beckwith Camp and Conference Center, February 10 -12, 2011;

• elected Gary Moore, Secretary of the Diocese; and re-elected the other GeneralOfficers: Hal Major, Treasurer; Kathy Miller, Esq., Diocesan Chancellor for Alabama;Scott Remington, Esq., Diocesan Chancellor for Florida; Kit Caffey, Registrar- Historiographer;
• elected Lynn Ferren, St. Patrick’s, Panama City; Ed Garrison, St. James’, Eufaula; Mac Walcott, St. James’, Fairhope; The Rev. De Freeman, Epiphany, Crestview and The Rev. Ede Plovanich, Nativity, Dothan to three-year terms on the Standing Committee. The Standing Committee subsequently elected The Rev. Greg Hein, president and Lynn Ferren, secretary for the 2010 year.
