FAIRHOPE, AL — The Brotherhood of St. Andrew held its Assembly gathering on Saturday, June 11, at Beckwith Camp and Conference Center in Fairhope, Al. The program included a traditional service and Eucharist led by Bishop Duncan.

Bishop Duncan also provided a talk linking the life of St. Barnabas and his trials and tribulations and how the Brothers of St. Andrew can continue with resolve to Pray daily, Study our Bible, provide Service to our community and bring men and boys to Jesus Christ through the demonstration of goodness in our daily lives as Christians.
The group appointed Bruce B. Stone as Vice President of the Assembly. Bruce is currently the Director of the St. James Fairhope Chapter of the BoStA. Bruce Stone, along with John Matthews, Director of the Christ Church Pensacola Chapter, and John Fowler, Director of St. Paul’s, Daphne Chapter, talked about their chapters’ past year activities, fund raising and use of the proceeds. Bob Kreiner, the Area Diocesan Coordinator reviewed plans for the coming years with an emphasis on communication and growing Chapters in the Diocese.
Dick Hooper, President of the Province IV Brotherhood, also reviewed the activities of what may be described as the “Confederacy Province” as the area is comprised of those states from North Carolina to Florida and across to Mississippi. There have been many new Chapters formed this past year and a new Assembly organized in North Carolina by former BoStA President, Ron Warfuel this past month.

L-R Paul Harriman, Bp. Duncan, Bruce Stone
Sam Powers of Christ Church, Mobile, also spoke to the group about his calling to help re-establish a BoStA Chapter at the Cathedral. He is strongly supported by Cathedral Dean Johnny Cook who has been a BoStA member and had BoStA Chapters at his churches in Texas where he was Rector. Assembly President, Paul Harriman, was the Master of Ceremonies.
The Bishop gave a talk about the Lazarian Project, a project that provides low cost housing in specific countries and suggested that the BoA build a unit for use as a demo to show what can be accomplished with so little. The group has a tentative plan for building the demo house as well as a location where it will be seen by many who may consider donating to the cause.
Walt Kindergan of Christ Church Pensacola prepared the Bulletin using the liturgical calendar which on June 12, 2011, honored St. Barnabas. Walt searched the web and found an Anglican Church in Wales named after St. Barnabas. On the church’s web site were both an icon and a memorial plaque giving more details on the life and death of St. Barnabas and placed the graphics in the bulletin. Members of the Assembly signed one copy of the bulletin and forwarded it, along with a thank you letter, to the Rector of St. Barnabas in Wales.
