Volunteers poised and in top form for the Presiding Bishop’s weekend in the diocese
Many hard working and willing volunteers are poised to carry out their assignments this weekend as Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori moves through her tightly packed itinerary, visiting several parishes and all three diocesan agencies. Planning for this weekend began in the fall of 2008.

Carmen Kimmons prepping the Diocesan office
What a production! In the past few weeks host parishes have been tidying their landscapes, making repairs, and freshening the facilities in preparation. Today many parishioners are cooking and baking, arranging flowers and preparing the altars for the services and receptions that will follow.
Today the volunteers open the curtains and flip the lights as The Most Rev. Dr. Katharine Jefferts Schori arrives in Pensacola, the place of her birth. At Bishop Philip Duncan’s invitation, the Presiding Bishop will spend time with diocesan clergy and spouses, with clergy and lay leaders of the diocese and their spouses, and with youth from throughout the diocese.
You have several opportunities to hear her preach. See the itinerary here:
The Rev. Albert Kennington is coordinating the visit. Read his comments in last Saturday’s edition of the Mobile Press Register.
Today’s Pensacola News Journal has a short article, as well. Read it here.
